The Campinorte meteorite is an ungrouped iron meteorite found in Brazil in 1992. Mr. Laert, a miner in the area, commented to his fellow miners that he had found a “steel stone” at a site nearby a number of years ago. The group discovered a half-buried mass near a pond using a metal detector. The meteorite was confirmed by the Museu Nacional, Rio de Janeiro.
Campinorte meteorites have a distinctive orange-colored exterior when natural and are classified as coarse octahedrites. We have both cleaned and natural. Their interior show a broad Widmanstätten pattern. Neumann lines are common, while Campinorte is not known for having large inclusions.
