As their name suggests, natural glasses are created by a natural process, and they are man-made. Trinitite, however, is unique in that it is considered a natural glass although its formation was not necessarily the result of a natural process. Trinitite formed under the intense heat and pressure of the Trinity Test nuclear explosion July 16, 1945. Sand and other materials in the area melted, due to the explosion, and then rapidly cooled.
