NWA 10828 Meteorite 6.5g

10828-46
Northwest Africa (NWA) 10828

NWA 10828 was found in a mixed box of meteorites intended to become slices. But its unusual appearance of chondrules that were eroding out of the ground mass and standing out free of surrounding rock led to it being sent for classification. The single stone of 541 grams had a thick outer layer of fragile material where the ground mass was nearly gone. This outer material became large and small fragments often with the imprint of the choundrules showing as cup depressions. Such replacement of the matrix with calcite is unusual and the distinct large choundrules make for a very interesting H4 meteorite.

NWA 7676 is a type LL3.5 chondrite which means that it has little free metal showing as metallic iron grains and it also is low in the iron contained in the minerals of the stone. The 3.5 indicates what is seen upon examination that the chondrules are distinct. They are also closely packed together. The meteorite is quite fresh and was classified with a W1 weathering stage meaning it has not changed much since landing. NWA 7676 has a light gray color mostly. The meteorite received a low shock stage of S2 indicating that it has not suffered too much banging around in its long life in space.

NWA 1109 Meteorite 7.0g

1109-18
Northwest Africa (NWA) 1109

Achondrite meteorites are meteorites without the round chondrule structures. Eucrites are one of the many types of achondrites. Thought to form on larger bodies in space where the rocks can differientiate they have more igneous type compositions. When a meteorite is made up of angular bits of rock it is called a breccia. If it is made of bits from several sources it is called a polymict breccia. This stone is a polymict eucrite breccia. It has not free metal, but is rich in light and dark mineral clasts with a beautiful honey color matrix.

Aiquile is an H group ordinary chondrite with abundant visible nickel-iron grains. The stones have a well developed black fusion crust. Aiquile is a type 5 stone based on its chondritic texture and most pieces show no brecciation. However many pieces do contain darker clasts with the same makeup as the rest of the stone. These darker patches can be seen in many of the pieces offered here. Aiquile is moderately shocked and received an S3 stage when classified. As a witnessed fall it is a W0 in weathering which is the stage for the specimens we have for sale which are from a stone found quickly after the fall. Some of the Aiquile stones show isolated small dark inclusions and melt pockets some of these features are also seen among our pieces. Approximately 50 kgs of material were recovered from the fall.

Chico Meteorite 40.8g

CHIC-11
Chico Meteorites For Sale

As an impact melt meteorite Chico is fascinating to look at. The metal in parts of the meteorite is now tiny blebs of microscopic size that give areas of the stone a silvery metallic sheen. The mineral portion of the meteorite has been melted so much that it runs through the stone as swirling and twisted bands of glassy rock. There are areas bordering the melt that have preserved in them a more normal chondritic appearance. The specimens we are selling were cut from large slices that had been polished on one side already. We have kept them the way they are with one side finished to polish and the other as laboratory cut. The unpolished side actually shows features of the stone that are concealed when polished.
