The Turgut meteorite was found in April 1999 in Turkey. The 152-kilogram meteorite was discovered by Cemil Gunay while he was plowing a field. Gunay store the specimen for about 10 years before it was eventually confirmed as a meteorite and studied at the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris, France by Dr. Catherine Caillet Komorowski
Turgut iron meteorites have a well-developed Widmanstätten pattern. Its interior also exhibits fractured schreibersite grains. Individuals have an attractive, regmaglypted exterior with deep cavities. The Turgut iron meteorite is sculptural and minimally weathered.
