Viet Nam tektites are part of the Indochinite strewnfield. These tektites are among the rarer of the Indochinite tektites from the mainland of southeast Asia. Viet Nam tektites are similar to the specimens from other areas but they have differences in texture. Viet Nam tektites may have some channeling and grooving that is not seen as much in others from the countries nearby. The patty forms from Viet Nam will often display the ray like splits along the edges seen also in tektites from other regions as well. Debate continues as to whether this flat patty form with the splits on the side is a collapsed hollow sphere or not. But many specimens show features leading some to consider this a strong possibility. The numbers of recovered specimens from Viet Nam has never been a large as from other regions making these very attractive to collectors seeking specimens from as many locations at possible.
