Sahara Find 1999 L6 Chondrite This "ordinary" chondrite has some very interesting characteristics. It has areas that are compressed and contain black shock lines only a fraction of an inch away from areas with easily visible chondrules. Some of the larger flakes of metal are two-tone in color and appear to be both nickel iron and troilite. Some large chondrules 3/16th of an inch in diameter have been found during cutting. Some of these are not really armored but are surrounded by rings of scattered flakes of metal. There are also some inclusions that are quite strange in appearance. The mass retained on about 85% of its surface a nice black fusion crust. However, some of the crust on what was buried has exfoliated away. Some of this same buried portion of crust has also changed color to a lighter dark gray. Please note that not all slices or fragments will show all these characteristics. Sahara 99676 Meteorite L6
